With a large amount of trees spaced around sand and water hazards, careful play is required; each hole must be approached differently and with strategy straight off the tee. Since their replacement in 2008, the undulating greens are one of the biggest challenges. WebOver the space of 50 years, Byrd designed over 100 golf courses in the Southwest United States, including an incredible ten in Myrtle Beach alone. Born in 1919 in North Carolina, Byrd served on a minesweeper during the Second World War, before graduating from North Carolina State in 1948 with a degree in landscape architecture.
